Blogregator FAQ

In another early morning coding session on the train, there is now a FAQ section added to the UKCFUG Blogregator.

I know it is not a huge addition but it has the essentials in it, like how to get your blog added.

If you have any any other questions, there are details on how to ask them and we will add them to the FAQ over time!

Blogregator performance!

I have always wondered just how popular some blog posts are on the UK Blogregator. Now as you know, we track this to build the monthly stats and the MXNA and so today I decided that I wanted them on my blogregator!

a few hours of coding later and low and behold, there they are!

The math behind them is simple, it shows just how popular you post is when compared with all other posts in the last 30 days. Simple hu?

UK regional Blogregator!

Phew! after a nice monday morning coding sesson, the stats breakdown per UK region is finaly done! Now I know it is not perfect as there are a few folk that I don't know where in the UK they are blogging from!

I wanted to keep it very community focused so the blogs are categorised into regions of where the blogger is currently blogging from, not where they are orignaly from. This gives us a bit of scope in that it allows for bloggers that where part of the UK scene once and have now moved to other parts of the world (see Expats) and also for folk like myself that are not from the UK but now call London home.

If you have any other ideas, just let me know. (next task = FAQ!)

UK Blogregator and Regions

the UK blogregator is slowly turning into a great success but somthing has been nagging at me for weeks... The idea of categories and the idea that people will only post about one product, like ColdFusion or Flash and that this never happens!

So after a bit of thinking, actualy it was a rant on the CF Dev list that kicked it off. I came up with an idea to try and get more of a UK community sprit happening! So now instead of products, it is by region.

UK Blogregator Continued

Ok, thanks to John B, I got a nice kick in the butt on Monday with my click-tracker in the UK Blogregator. He noticed that people who used the blended RSS feed from the blogregator did not get their clicks tracked...

so now they do! so a quick reminder, if you want to get the blended RSS feed of the blogregator, go here -> http://www.ukcfug.org/blogregator/xml/blogregator.xml

UK Blogregator

Some time ago now, I took the MXNA code that was on DRK3 and whipped up a blogregator for the UK MM related blogs. It all looked cool and I know that people were looking at it as the log files showed that they were. The hard thing was that I did not know if people were actually using it, if they were actually clicking on the links and going off to other people blogs and without access to all of their log files, I could not look to see if it was working.

So I looked at FullasGoog and the real mxna (www.markme.com/mxna) and saw that they were tracking clicks with a click.cfm. Not to reinvent the wheel, I went and did the same and also took Geoff's idea of tracking which bloggers were of most value, had the highest clickthroughs.

So after a bit of coding on the train and with thanks to my new 3G datacard, you too can now see if the blogegator is useful!
