iTunes has finaly cracked it!

being a bit of a mac convert, I have the iMusic trio (iTunes, iPod and Airport Express remote speakers) but I was always frustrated by the fact that my nice stereo (attached to the Airport express) was just a little too far from my study so I would have to hit play and then head to the lounge room to listen to the music...

but now, no more! you can stream to multiple airtunes speakers or even the local speakers at the same time and it all stays in sync!

Now that is cool!

Deer Park

For the more Mac inclined out there, there is some good news on the way!

The nice firefox folks have shipped Aplha 2 of the new version of Firefox (codenamed Deer Park) and it looks like they are adding better support for OSX (not that I have found it lacking in the past).

Grab the Alpha and have fun testing! http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/

Bluetooth!

We all know that bluetooth is cool and that metal detectors at airports do let a little metal through, like watches and rings... Well I saw the best thing today. A guy walked up to the metal detector on his bluetooth headset. Put the phone through the xray machine and kept talking on his earpiece... All the way through the metal detector! The security personel looked like they did not know if they should laught or cry, stop the guy or not! In the end, he just kept talking as he put his jacket on and walked off to find the lounge...

Very sweet!

Links, Firebird, Bookmarks and stuff

It is Sunday and I was surfing on my mac, and i was stuck looking for a bookmark that was not there. It then dawned on me that it was on my PC. I thought there had to be a better way and then i found this bookmark synchronizer for Firefox. Since it used XML to sync, i thought there could be some cool ways I could use this to keep this site up to date. So the first thing was to quickly whip up a little XPath statment to find the blogs folder and output them into the links pod on the right... I find a new blog that I like, I bookmark it and you see it! Very cool hu?

Speech input fun

I was playing around with Office's speech input software today and I found out that that was very little practice you can dictate straight to the computer and it will interpret and convert what you say into words. In fact the entire forest was written without touching the keyboard. So it isn't perfect yet but it's pretty impressive. I wonder why Microsoft haven't actually pointed this out to the world that Word can just do this, without you having to install anything else. The only downside was I had to read the first chapter of the Wizard of Oz to train it. Oh well

MD5, SHA-1 and more

It is time to break out the math textbooks - MD5 (also know as the hash algorithm) may be flawed. What does this mean? Well a hash of a document has been used for a long time to assure that the document has not be tampered with, apache and sun both use this system to assure that users have a genuine download of their software. All of that could be out the window. It has been generally assumed that if you could not create the same hash for a different document in your lifetime then it is fairly secure but now it appears that you could make the same MD5 hash (called a hash collision) in a few hours on the average PC - not good.
