Web Trivia Night

So I was hanging out with some cool geeks at the Aimia Intimates event last night and one of them told me about a trivia contest that I might actually be able to win!

I am not sure if I can make it to Sydney again, but if you are in Sydney and know who invented the internet? Have an idea what WWW stands for? Clued up on who the first blogger was? then this will be a sweet night!

Keep August 9th free, as News Digital Media and Web Directions are hosting a night of networking for fun and profit on August 9 at the Vault Hotel in Sydney. Compete with your peers in a world first: a trivia night where all the questions will focus on the web, tech, and online life.

webDU 2007 over for another year

I have just made it home again after another great WebDu! Every year Geoff and and the folks a Daemon have put on a great show and this year was no exception so that guys! I look forward to next years already!

Now, a second thanks to the folks that came to my session on Instant messaging applications in CF, I will have the slides and the code up here sometime in the next 24 hours - Some of you pointed out a few things I could fix during my presentation so I want to fix that up first, so stay tuned.

Speaking at WebDU 2007

Once again the great folks at Daemon are putting on webDU 2007 and Geoff dropped me a line to say that I was going to be speaking once again at this great conference.

I will be speaking about Instant messaging and CF, so get ready for some little bots answering silly questions over IM as I prepare!

If IM is not your thing, I will be sure to see you in a bar somewhere to chat about anything, it was a blast last year and I am sure it will be again this year.

sorry it took me so long to get this up. These are the files that go with my presentation from webDU.

Please if you have any feedback or bugs that you find, please let me know.

webDU Presentation - Email tracking made Easy

A few folks at my session asked me if I could make my presentation available after the session, so here it is, Just hit download... (below silly!)

Code to follow shortly (just gotta clean it up somewhat first)

WebDU Wrapup

Well webDU is over for another year, Geoff and the folks from Daemon have done themselves proud once again and have managed to put together possible the best web conference on the planet. If you missed, well you missed out. Here are just a few highlights that were squeezed into 2.5 days of fun at the casino

  • Nectarine's world famous intro animations
  • Adobe's pin stripe shirts and their renewed commitment to all things cool (flex, cf and their wedding vows)
  • Gavin Elvis Cooney fantastic Elvis impression and some very disturbing photos on flickr
  • Robyn Hilliard Singing karaoke and the Rocketboots massage pallor
  • 7 great sessions (I only made it to seven of them - sorry if I missed yours)
  • Running into Wayne Smith (Ex macromedia Dreamwaver god) and finding out he now works for Microsoft running their Expression product range
  • The entire Allaire Australia team (circ. 1999) being in one place at one time, again.
  • Microsoft buying the beers all night Thursday night and then very thoughtfully buying breakfast Friday morning (don't believe everything you hear, MS are nice guys!)
  • Stunning Mike Kear in to silence in my presentation by remembering his name.
Oh and the Brazilian dancers... can't forget them... well done Geof!

Thinking about going to WebDU?

This might help you out! I just found out that the powers that be have finally succumbed to pressure (aka the IT team demanded it) and RedBalloon are now sponsors! So what? I hear you say? Well it means that we have some prizes to win! In particular, the chance to Zip around Oran Park in a V8 Supercar!

Having done this one myself, I can personally say that this is very cool! Even if you don't like V8 super car racing, it is so much better when you are the one in the car as apposed to just watching it on TV.

Anyway, there is still time to register for WebDU and to check out both Mark Lynch and My sessions.

Speaking at WebDU

I have just heard that the crew over at daemon have accepted me as a speaker for webdu (formly mxdu) next year! I am presenting on building email management systems and how you can control how your website handles email and how you can make sure that you know your message is getting across. After chatting to some folks in the community here in Sydney, I am going to handle this totally without using event gateways (it appears people either don't have CF enterprise or are afraid of event gateways for some reason)

Anyway, if you are in Sydney in Feb, come on down to Star City to check out webdu, it looks like it is going to be huge conference. If you don't live in Australia, what better chance to get to see Sydney then by calling it a business expense!

Scotch on the Rocks!

Whilst I prefer my Scotch neat or with a little drop of water, I do like the name of the new Scottish CFUG conference!

Along with Andi Hindle, I will be making the short hop to Scotland to present at this event (it is a strange coincidence that both Andi and I love scotch)

The price is very cheep at only 25 quid so well worth the trip and make it even more inviting, they are promising goodie bags for all and a pub tour on not one night but two!

Visit the site for more details! http://www.scottishcfug.com/?do=event.scotch

Futurex Cape Town

Sunday sees me on a nice Boeing 747-400 bound for South Africa again. If you are arround Cape Town next week, stick you head (and the rest of your body) into Futurex and come and say hi! We will be showing off the latest cool stuff for the folks down south. http://www.futurexcape.co.za/

Shamless Self Promotion!!

I am on the road again shortly doing a series of events arround Europe that we are calling 'MX Events'. The idea is to have a very focused event for designers and developers (yes so focused there is two tracks) and get some serious 'from the trenches' type material across to people very quickly.

I think it looks good, but I am biased, so make your own decision, have a look at Macromedia MX Events website.
